Surgery for vestibular schwannoma (Acoustic neurinoma)

The aim of this surgery is to remove as much of the tumour as possible while preserving facial nerve functions (movements of the face). In some cases, we may not be able to remove the entire tumour to protect the nerve.

Typically this tumour is approached by doing a small craniotomy behind the ear made through a small incision. Advances in technology facilitates to monitor he facial nerve while resection of this tumour. If a residual tumour is left behind then, radiotherapy is offer for the residual tumour.
