Skull base endoscopic procedures allow neurosurgeons to remove pituitary tumors through a patient’s nose, rather than opening the head. This endonasal, endoscopic, skull-based procedures aim at a quicker recovery for patients with pituitary tumors and other tumors involving the skull base. And many of the complications seen with traditional tumor removal can be avoided.

Neurosurgeons use endoscope, a narrow tubular instrument which is only 4 mm in diameter. It is inserted through the nostril. The endoscope helps to bring in the viewing lens close to the working area, thus providing a high resolution, magnified view of the tumor and surrounding important structures. Special instruments are used alongside the endoscope for meticulous dissection and tumor removal.
