Microvascular decompression
This surgery is performed in patients suffering from trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasms or glossopharyngeal neuralgia
This approach involves a small craniotomy behind the ear made through a small incision. Through this opening the location of the nerve which is being compressed by the blood vessel is identified using a microscope. Small pads of Teflon are placed between the nerve and vessel. This completes the surgery.
