Odontoid fracture

The odontoid process is the protruberence of the second cervical vertebra (axis). Odontoid fracture is a relatively common fracture of C2 body. There are three types of odontoid fractures. Type I and Type III are managed conservatively without surgery.
Type II fracture (most common type) need surgery. Anterior odontoid screw fixation is the preferred surgery in cases of pure odontoid fracture without ligamental injury. Other option being posterior C1-C2 fixation
